Won’t Get Fooled Again

Guaranteed to be an overview of the pack of lies which constitutes much contemporary art, Cack-U-Like's Jon Purnell has selected 15 video and performance artists to play with our perception. Just as we agree to allow ourselves to be deceived by animated film; believing, recognising and participating in its deception or trick as an integrated constituent of the art work in which we take great pleasure. In this latest exhibition from the Projektor team, Plato’s description of Art as an imitation of an imitation is enthusiastically explored leaving romantic aesthetics about Truth and Beauty with Keats’ Grecian Urn. For instance Karen Russo displays with her video 'Candy House' an array of functioning baby and toddler traps, whilst Cack-U-Like’s video 'Public Request' tricks the public to pay towards their cappuccinos. Moreover, in Beagles and Ramsay’s 'Nothing Sacred', a dummy is given commandments as if it was a living being. Other artists contributing to this network of fabrications and half truths include:  Antoine Catala, Erica Scourti, Jim Hollands, Dave Ball, Alex Staiger, Mark Brogan, Jason Dee, Adam Fearon, Jonathan Trayner, Rose Eken.
